Adding Lake County Diamonds as a local feature to some of Wild Crow Farm Pottery, we are proud to introduce more information on these beautiful stones.  These clear gem stones are a natural gift from our local volcano, Mt. Konocti, and are only found in Lake County California. The literature varies, but on a scale of hardness (diamonds being a 10), these seem to be rated between 7-8.

Known also as Moon Tears and Konocti Diamonds, there’s a local Pomo Indian legend about these stones.  According to this legend, the Moon fell in love with a Pomo Indian chief. The moon could not be with the chief because her duties included lighting the sky at night, and marking the changing seasons. Distraught, she wept, and her tears fell to earth became “Moon Tears” or Lake County Diamonds.

Lake County Diamonds are not actual diamonds, but sparkle like diamonds, adding an extraordinary touch to our local themed wildlife pottery. These stones are a clear silicon dioxide (quartz) that is almost pure, although sometimes they are found in shades of lavender, pink or yellow.

We fire our pottery to over 2200 degrees, which does not melt the stones, but sets them in the glaze.  We feature the addition of locally sourced clay and find incorporating Lake County Diamonds adds an amazing touch of beauty to our stoneware pottery.

Wild Crow Farm Pottery features bear, fox, crow, flowers, ferns and forests in reflection of our local surroundings.  We are proud to be part of California’s hand crafted artisans using natural, native materials.
